Job description

Orbem is an impact-driven deep-tech scaleup with global reach, founded in Munich, Germany and now expanding internationally with our newest office in Houston, Texas. We develop fast, accurate, and accessible imaging solutions that provide access to otherwise unattainable sources of knowledge.

We seek to make a difference – and develop solutions to sustainably feed the world, accelerate the transition to a green economy, and transform disease detection.

Join us on our mission to unleash AI-powered imaging for everything and everyone.

Senior Software Integration Engineer - Python (f/m/d)

  • Starting date: As soon as possible

  • Yearly Salary: € 70,000 - € 75,000 in yearly salary

  • Equity: Part-time: € 20,000 - € 40,000 in company shares

  • Benefits: Up to €5,000 annually

  • Work model: Full-time, Hybrid in Munich

Your role

You build the software that integrates the first generation of smart industrial MRI systems. You evolve our software architecture and provide technical leadership to ensure the highest code quality in our fast-paced environment. By leveraging the latest software development trends, you introduce best practices for software and data governance and drive the development of scalable and robust AI-powered imaging solutions.

This role allows you to unlock the potential of MRI technology, transforming it from traditional clinical settings into fully automated industrial applications.

Your day-to-day

  • Design, develop, and optimize software for edge devices, ensuring seamless, high-performance integration with MRI and industrial automation hardware.

  • Drive improvements in the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and release management processes for the Edge environment to ensure operational excellence.

  • Collaborate with Core Platform teams (Data, ML, Infrastructure) to architect an agnostic, scalable system that prevents code fragmentation across products and applications.

  • Own the identification and mitigation of high-impact software risks in a production environment with critical customer commitments.

  • Offer mentorship and guidance in technical practices within the team.

Job requirements

Your experiences and skills

Fit to our values

  • We own every challenge: we enjoy complexity and thrive under uncertainty.

  • We strive for better: we seize any opportunity for growth and challenge the status quo. We are constantly learning and improving.

  • We imagine new frontiers: we think beyond ‘doable’ and ‘reasonable.’ We design a sustainable and healthy future together.

Experience and skills

  • Backend software development, primarily with Python in a Linux environment.

  • Deploying and maintaining software in a production environment (not just development/testing).

  • Complex system integration, specifically connecting software with physical hardware, industrial automation, or specialized sensors (e.g., MRI/Imaging).

  • Managing and scaling CI/CD pipelines, containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., k3s/Kubernetes).

  • Observability practices and leveraging logging, metrics, and tracing to manage system health and troubleshoot issues in distributed systems.

Fit to our technical culture

We are in a journey towards a technical culture that values:

  • Knowledge sharing and social coding.

  • Experimentation and learning from failures.

  • Robust testing and simplicity in design.

  • Continuous improvement through rapid feedback from production.

  • Aligning our technology with our business domains.

What makes you stand out from other candidates

  • Passion for Orbem's mission (sustainable food and health) and demonstrated alignment with our core values, going beyond purely technical interest.

  • Prior experience in a domain with complex, interdependent physical subsystems (e.g., medical devices, industrial automation, robotics) and a passion for deep, technical problem-solving.

  • Deep knowledge of software architecture best practices (e.g., DDD, Clean Architecture) and their practical application to create scalable, maintainable, and agnostic platforms.

  • Experience or deep interest in IoT technologies or industrial automation solutions (e.g., conveyors, sorters, PLCs).

  • Ability to work with significant autonomy and ownership, defining project scope, priorities, and execution strategy without extensive supervision.
